Thessaloniki has good, wide roads that connect it to northern and southern Greece, Epirus, former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Thrace. The country’s main national road, Athens-Lamia-Larissa-Thessaloniki, ends up there, while a new section, between Katerini and Thessaloniki (the old highway follows a different route) has been constructed in accordance with the most modern standards. Apart from the fact that it shortens the distance between the two cities, it provides the greatest possible safety to drivers.
The city has one of the most complete urban transport systems in Greece. It is connected to other Greek cities, as well as to foreign destinations, through dense road, rail, air and maritime transport. Its airport also serves passenger traffic.

Thessaloniki bus tickets:
 SINGLE TICJET: Valid for up to (4) trips made within seventy (70) minutes from the time of issue (if issued by ticket machines on the buses) or from the time of first validation (in the case of pre-printed tickets). If the last validation occurs before seventy (70) minutes have elapsed from the time of first validation or issue, the ticket is valid until the end of the trip When issued by ticket machines on the buses the cost is: € 0.70
24-HOUR TICKETS : Valid for 24 hours and are to be validated (if pre-printed) only upon first and last use. When issued by ticket machines on the buses they do not require validation upon first use. If the last validation occurs before 24 hours have elapsed from the time of first validation or issue, the ticket is valid until the end of the trip. 24-hour tickets are sold only at O.A.S.Th kiosks and ticket machines on the buses. 24-hour tickets issued by ticket machines on the buses cost the same as pre-printed 24-hour tickets
WEEKLY TICKETS: Valid for 7 calendar days from, and including, the first day of validation in a ticket-validation (time-stamp) machine, after which the ticket requires no further validation and is valid until 24:00 on the seventh day. Weekly tickets are old only at O.A.S.Th kiosks and ticket machines on the buses.
